Project Two - Circulation

The circulation of the Villa Savoye was mapped out by tracing a journey through each floor in a way that the movement did not back track or crossed over itself. Le Corbusier wish to convey circulation in a vertical manner. Therefore I mapped the journey from entering the building by car, then moving by foot from the ground floor up to the solarium level by means of the ramp and then returning to the ground floor by the stairway and leaving the property again by car. The line produced by the journey was then stretched out in a linear form. The experience of the journey was represented by texture. Rough texture indicated a more agitated disposition, such as when arriving at the villa by car, moving through to the smoothest and calmest areas which would be the most peaceful disposition one would experience in the building, in the open courtyard areas. I specifically chose not to draw or use further words as 70% of what we learn is by eyesight, therefore to focus the brain on the 'experience' I removed the visual component so that one could concentrate on the 'sensation' of the journey through touch and imagining ones disposition through the experience of that touch.
